History of Google

The story of Google begins in 1996 at Stanford University, where two PhD students, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, started a research project called BackRub.

At that time, search engines ranked websites mainly by counting how many times keywords appeared on a page. Page and Brin believed this was not effective. Instead, they developed a new system called PageRank, which ranked websites based on how many other sites linked to them and how important those sites were.

This idea became the foundation of modern search engines.

The Birth of Google (1998)

Google more info was officially founded on September 4, 1998, in a garage in Menlo Park, California.

The name “Google” comes from the mathematical term “googol”, which represents the number 1 followed by 100 zeros. This reflected the founders’ mission:
to organize an enormous amount of information on the internet.

The company received its first major funding when investor Andy Bechtolsheim wrote a check for $100,000, helping turn the project into a real business.

In the early 2000s, Google grew very quickly. Some key milestones include:

2000 – Launch of Google AdWords (advertising system)
2001 – Image search introduced
2002–2005 – Expansion into news, maps, and more
